Friends of the Depot, (Mark Moore, Chairman) is now a non-profit community organization which meets once a month; restoring the Burlington, Iowa depot. Already, #3003 has been repainted with a grant from Pepsi Cola Corp., and cosmetic painting has been done on the depot with $1000 of paint donated by Amtrak. Plans are underway for a station agent to return to the depot, a false temporary room to be removed, wiring to be updated, the restaraunt to return, floodwall built, canopy work done, and new signage installed. Friends of the Depot was instituted in the 1980's to save the depot building from demolition, mothball it, and do renovation work with community volunteers. The organization has grown to 30+ members already, and is moving into 2012 with much success ahead! Progress can be viewed on www.edminardphotography.com (Progress at the depot).
